If the paint protection film hadn’t been there, the cost would have been around $1000.
The repair process, however, was not as smooth as one might hope. It took about five weeks for the body shop to receive the replacement bumper from Tesla, and another week to paint and install it on the car. The delay was partly due to the complexity of matching the multi-coat red paint of the Model 3, which required several attempts to get it right.
During the repair process, the owner had to resort to driving a gas car for a week, which made them realize how much they missed the convenience of owning a Tesla. From the hassle of filling up at a gas station to the overall driving experience, going back to a gasoline car was a stark reminder of the benefits of driving an Electric Vehicle.
Fortunately, Tesla has recently announced that they will start offering collision repairs at their service centers and through their mobile Rangers. This new service could potentially streamline the repair process and make it more convenient for Tesla owners in the future.
