Did Running Over a Metal Bucket Cause Damage to My Tesla Battery?

Hello everyone and welcome! Today, we’re going to discuss what happens when you run over a large piece of metal in your Tesla. This story is based on a real-life experience that I had with my Tesla Model 3 over the nearly four years that I’ve owned it.

It all started when I was driving on the highway, passing a semi-truck on my right and a barricade on my left. Suddenly, a metal bucket spit out from under the car in front of me. I had to make a split-second decision – slam on the brakes or straddle the metal bucket. I chose the latter, hoping for the best.

The metal bucket passed underneath my car, making loud noises as it hit the back. It eventually spit out and became a problem for the car behind me. The damage seemed minimal at first, with tears in the front belly pan and streaks on the battery pack. However, the real issue was discovered when the metal bucket hit the rear suspension and cracked a rear suspension cover.

I decided to replace the damaged part myself, but out of curiosity, I reached out to my local Tesla Service Center to inquire about the cost. To my surprise, they agreed to take it in and replaced the part for just $11.55, much cheaper than I could have done it myself.

During the service visit, Tesla also inspected the battery and found no major damage, giving me peace of mind. They also looked at other service items, such as ball joints, wire harness connections, and the air conditioning system. The total cost of service over the four years of ownership was minimal, with the most significant expense being the replacement of cabin air filters.

Despite a few service issues, my overall experience with the Tesla Model 3 has been positive. It’s a genuine sports sedan with excellent handling and acceleration. The car has many convenient features, such as navigation, voice control, and Sentry mode. However, there are also some frustrations, such as the rain-sensing wipers and infotainment system glitches.

In conclusion, the Tesla Model 3 has been a fantastic daily driver for me, and even after four years, it remains relevant and competitive in the market. While there are some drawbacks and frustrations, the overall ownership experience has been positive. Thank you for reading, and feel free to leave any questions or comments below!
