Welcome back to the channel, Dan here from Norn Tesla! Today, I’m excited to show you how to do your yearly brake service on your Tesla Model 3. This is a crucial maintenance task that Tesla recommends doing every year or 12,000 miles to keep your brakes in top condition and ensure they last even longer.
Now, I have to admit, I’m not the most skilled mechanic out there. But if I can do this brake service, then you can definitely do it too. So let’s dive right in and I’ll walk you through the process step by step.
First things first, you’ll need a few tools to get started. You’ll need a jack to lift the car, some pucks to keep your battery pack safe, a torque wrench, a 21mm socket for your lug nuts, a punch and hammer for the pins, a ratchet wrench, a wire brush, brake lubricant, and brake cleaner. Make sure you have all these tools on hand before you begin.
We’ll start with the front brakes. You’ll need to remove the pins and the brake pads to access the calipers. Use a wire brush and brake cleaner to clean off any residue and build-up on the calipers and brake pads. Apply brake lubricant to ensure smooth operation, then reassemble the brake pads and pins.
Moving on to the rear brakes, the process is a bit different due to the integrated parking brake. You’ll need to release the parking brake and remove the caliper to access the brake pads. Clean and lubricate the calipers and brake pads before reassembly.
Overall, the brake service is a relatively simple task that can be done at home with basic tools. It’s a great way to ensure your brakes stay in top condition and last longer, saving you time and money in the long run.
