Hello and welcome to the Car Care Out reviews Channel! Today, we are going to do a proper technical review on the Tesla Model Y. This is a video that I have been wanting to do since day one of this channel. In today’s video, we’re going to look at the inside, the outside, some things that are good, some things that are not good, in a fashion that you typically do not see in typical car reviews. Without further ado, let’s get right into it.
Let’s start our technical review under the hood. Oh, just give me a moment there. That’s much better. Now, I can understand what we’re looking at. Let’s talk about the Tesla powertrain and something about electric cars that you need to know. Every electric car is basically a simple recipe – a giant battery and an electric motor. You send power to this electric motor, the car moves; you cut power from it, it stops. That’s basically the recipe for every single electric car.
There’s really nothing cutting edge about that. The car is very big, you don’t have an engine, you don’t have a transmission, you have all kinds of space for a giant battery. But here’s where Tesla‘s magic is – the thermal management system. This is where Tesla takes the competition and shakes their hand, telling them, “Welcome to the 1920s.” That’s where their technology is compared to this. This is where Tesla truly shines.
Let’s talk about thermal management for a moment. Why is it important? Lithium-ion batteries are very tricky to manage. They don’t like cold weather, they don’t like hot weather, they want to be exactly where they want to be. In the case of cars, if you’re in a cold climate, well, the battery is too cold; if you’re in a hot climate, well, the battery is too hot. The tricky part is how do you manage the battery temperature ideally and without becoming counterproductive?
Tesla‘s thermal management system is where they excel. They have a system that is possibly the most efficient ever in the automotive industry. This system is so cleverly designed that it can squeeze every last drop of heat to warm the cabin and the battery in a way that is possibly the most efficient ever.
The Octo valve, an eight-way valve, is a brilliant component that allows the coolant and refrigerant to flow in a way that is unheard of in the automotive industry. This valve, combined with other components like the liquid-cooled condenser, chiller, radiators, and electric compressor, creates a system that is beyond anything you’ll see in the automotive industry.
However, when we look at the exterior of the Tesla Model Y, things start to fall apart. The design is bland, the build quality and fit and finish are horrendous. The gaps are all over the place, and the materials used feel cheap and flimsy. The door handle design is also a point of annoyance, making everyday use cumbersome.
Moving on to the interior, the lack of physical buttons and controls, except for a few, is a downside. The materials used in the interior feel cheap, and the overall design and fit and finish are not up to par for a car in this price range. The only redeeming feature is the 15-inch screen, which is well-made and responsive.
In the back seat, there is decent legroom and headroom, but the overall feel of the interior is cheap and poorly put together. The lack of amenities and the use of cheap materials detract from the overall experience of the car.
In conclusion, while Tesla‘s technology and thermal management system are top-notch, the rest of the car falls short. The exterior design is bland, the interior is poorly put together, and the overall driving experience is not as refined as one would expect from a car in this price range. While the Tesla Model Y is fast and efficient, the compromises in build quality and design make it a hard sell for those looking for a well-rounded electric car.
Before you go running to buy a Tesla, take a closer look at the rest of the car. While the technology and driving experience may be top-notch, the overall build quality and design may leave you wanting more. Thank you for watching, and may the Lord bless you and keep you. Have a wonderful day!
