Today, I want to share with you my very first experience with an annual service at the Tesla service center after driving 65 thousand miles in 12 months. Additionally, I want to discuss the extended warranty that Tesla offers when you purchase a new Model S or Model X. Is it worth it? Should you pay the extra 2 or 4 grand for the extended warranty, or should you pass on it?
As a Tesla owner, I started to feel anxious about the health and performance of my car after driving such a high mileage in a short amount of time. While Tesla recommends taking your car in for service every 12,500 miles, not all instances require substantial maintenance. I decided to go in for the full four-year annual service, which cost me $850.
During my service visit, I also had them look into a grinding noise I was hearing when slowing down at high speeds. They discovered that my front brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced, which they quoted at $800. Surprisingly, they ended up not charging me for this repair, along with a few other unexpected fixes, which was a pleasant surprise.
The service center also performed a thorough inspection and maintenance checklist, covering everything from fluid checks to tire rotations and alignment. They even replaced parts that were under warranty at no additional cost to me. Overall, I was impressed with the level of service and attention to detail provided by Tesla.
When it comes to the recommended service intervals, I would suggest skipping the first and third-year services if you have rear-wheel drive. However, the second and fourth-year services are more comprehensive and worth the investment. As for the extended warranty, it ultimately depends on your financial situation and long-term ownership plans.
If you have the extra cash and want peace of mind, the extended warranty can be a good investment. However, if you’re on a tight budget, you may choose to forego it and address any issues as they arise within the initial warranty period.
