Cost and Process of Replacing a Tesla Windshield

Have you ever wondered what the process is like to get the windshield replaced on your Tesla? With all the advanced technology and autopilot cameras, it can be a bit daunting to think about. But fear not, because I recently went through the process myself and I’m here to share my experience with you.

It all started when my wife caught a sizable rock on our Tesla Model 3 windshield. The crack started spreading quickly, and we knew we needed to get it replaced. Luckily, it was covered under our insurance, so I took a trip to the Tesla service center in Grand Rapids, Michigan to get it fixed.

The process of scheduling the appointment was relatively easy. I simply went into the Tesla app, selected our Model 3, and scheduled an appointment. I described the damage, and the app provided me with available dates to choose from. However, there was a slight hiccup when they had to reschedule my appointment due to the windshield not being in stock yet. But I was able to easily reschedule it myself for a more convenient time.

When I dropped off the car at the service center, I was offered a loaner vehicle, including a red Model X and a Model X P100D. Despite the temptation, I declined the loaner as I had work to do. The repair itself took longer than expected, but the end result was a shiny new windshield with a clean interior.

After the repair was completed, I was informed that the cameras on the car would likely go through a calibration process. I experienced some issues with the autopilot initially, but a quick camera calibration fixed the problem. The total cost of the repair came out to $998.85, with the parts costing $762.60 and labor at $236.25.

In Michigan, Tesla does not coordinate with insurance companies for windshield replacements, so I had to pay out of pocket. However, my insurance agent assured me that I would be reimbursed for the cost, minus a $100 deductible. Overall, the process was smooth, and now we have a new windshield that makes driving our Tesla feel safer.

If you’ve had a similar experience with a windshield repair on your Tesla, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below. Thanks for joining me on this journey, and I look forward to sharing more Tesla adventures with you in the future.
