Hey guys, Internet dude here! Today, I want to share a quick update video with you all about something that happened to me recently. I had my first real door handle problem with my 2015 Tesla Model S 85D, and let me tell you, I was not impressed.
It all started when I walked up to my car and noticed that the driver’s door handle wasn’t coming out like it should. The other three handles popped out just fine, but this one was stuck, making a strange motor noise. I tried to capture the sound on camera to show you all just how strange it was.
I quickly realized that the car was off and parked, yet the LED was on, and the motor inside the handle was still trying to do something. It was a bit concerning, as I wasn’t sure if it was trying to retract or push out the handle. I knew that if the car remained off, the motor noise would either time out or burn out, causing more problems.
As my warranty was set to expire soon, I knew I had to come up with a temporary solution. I remembered a trick I saw on a YouTube video and decided to use a piece of string to manually open the door handle. It was a bit of a hassle, but it worked for the time being.
However, a few days later, I came across a tip on a Tesla owners’ Facebook group that suggested using duct tape to fix the handle temporarily. I gave it a try, and to my surprise, it worked even better than the string trick. By pulling the handle out and taping it in place, I was able to trigger a switch that allowed me to open the door from the outside.
While the fix was far from ideal, it was a good temporary solution until I could get the handle properly repaired. I reached out to Tesla service in Calgary to schedule a visit, but the distance and travel fees made it a bit challenging. I was hesitant to pay $1,500 for a technician to come out, so I decided to wait it out until they could make a trip to Saskatchewan.
Living in a remote area definitely had its challenges when it came to owning a Tesla, but I was determined to make it work. Despite the door handle issue, I still loved my car and was grateful for the temporary fix that allowed me to continue using it.
In the end, owning a Tesla had its ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
