Maintenance Costs for Tesla Ownership Over 3 Years

As the owner of two Tesla Model 3s, a 2018 Long Range and a 2019 Standard Range Plus, I have been diligently tracking the maintenance and costs associated with owning these electric vehicles. In this yearly update, I will share with you the maintenance items and repairs that have occurred over the past year.

Let’s start with the Standard Range Plus, which has accumulated 34,000 miles over the past year, bringing the total mileage to 18,000. One issue that I encountered was a popping noise while supercharging in colder weather and driving in high elevations. After making an appointment with Tesla, both high voltage battery breathers were replaced at no cost. Additionally, the 12-volt battery needed to be replaced at 25,000 miles, which was done by Tesla mobile service at no cost. I also replaced the air filters myself, costing a total of $34 for the year.

Moving on to the Long Range Model 3, which now has 78,000 miles, an increase of 30,000 miles from last year. At 50,000 miles, the bumper-to-bumper warranty expired, but the battery and powertrain warranty remains in place. Tesla mobile service installed an occupant classification system filter module to address an electrical interference issue, and the second 12-volt battery replacement was needed at 73,000 miles, costing $116.64. Air filters were also replaced at home for $34. The car is due for a new set of tires soon, so that expense will be included in next year’s update.

Overall, the total cost for the Standard Range Plus for the year was $34, while the Long Range Model 3 incurred a total cost of $150.64. It’s important to note that new Teslas come with various warranties, depending on the model, providing coverage for different components for a certain period of time or mileage.

I plan to continue tracking the maintenance and costs of owning these vehicles and will provide yearly updates. Make sure to subscribe to stay tuned for the next update. Thank you for joining me on this journey of Electric Vehicle ownership, and remember to follow me on social media for more updates and resources. Happy charging!
