Protecting my Tesla Model 3 alloys from curb rash

Hello folks, welcome back to the channel! Today, we’re diving back into Tesla territory with a look at some serious alternatives to the aero alloy covers. These covers claim to not only protect against curb rash but also improve efficiency beyond Tesla‘s own arrows, all while looking good in the process. Pretty bold claims, right? Let’s check them out.

You’re probably here because you’re looking to customize the look of your Model 3 wheels or maybe you have some damage to your alloys and you’re looking to cover it up and protect them from further damage. Either way, you’re in the right place. We’re going to be taking a closer look at the Orbital wheel covers from Rometrix (or maybe it’s Rime Tricks? No, it’s probably Metrics because they’re related to rims, right? Let’s go with that).

We’ve had our Model 3 for about nine months now, and our alloys have already taken a beating. Every wheel has some kind of damage, and while I’m willing to take some responsibility for my driving and parking, the setup is unforgiving. The aero covers that come with the car are designed for efficiency, but offer no protection for the outer rim of the alloys. So, what are your options?

Another Tesla YouTuber, Adam from Well Informed, did a great review of alloy covers from Maid that involve adding armor to the alloys to protect them from scratches and scuffs. I was close to buying those covers until I stumbled upon Rometrix and was intrigued by their all-black look and efficiency claims. So, let’s unbox them and see how they look installed.

The installation process is straightforward, with the rim protection kit ensuring the covers don’t damage the alloy paint underneath. The covers themselves are made from a high-temperature and impact-resistant polymer alloy, noticeably heavier and thicker than Tesla‘s arrows. Once installed, they give the car a sleek, all-black look that I’m obsessed with.

The manufacturer claims that these covers are slightly more efficient than Tesla‘s aero covers, which piqued my interest. I’ll be monitoring their performance to see if there are any noticeable efficiency improvements in my day-to-day driving. In terms of pricing, they may seem expensive, but compared to the cost of repairing or replacing damaged wheels, it’s a worthwhile investment.

Overall, I’m impressed with the Rometrix Orbital wheel covers and excited to see how they perform in the long run. If you’re looking to upgrade the look and protection of your Model 3 wheels, these covers are definitely worth considering.
