Reflecting on One Year with a Budget-Friendly, Well-Used Tesla: Do I Have Any Regrets?

It’s been over a year now since I got my Tesla Model S, and what a year it has been. From car crashes to battery replacements, I’ve experienced it all with my Electric Vehicle. In this follow-up review, I’ll dive into the ups and downs of owning a Tesla and share my thoughts on the future of electric cars.

Let’s start with the elephant in the room – the car crash. A few months after getting my Tesla, I was involved in my first car accident. While the safety features of the Tesla protected me from serious injury, the aftermath of the crash revealed some drawbacks of owning an Electric Vehicle. The automatic power cut-off after airbag deployment left me stranded on a busy highway, highlighting the limitations of EVs in emergency situations.

Following the crash, I had to search for a replacement car and ended up with a 2015 Model S 85d. Despite the initial setbacks, I found some improvements in this newer model, such as the sleek metallic black exterior and the more comfortable 19-inch wheels. However, I did encounter issues with the panoramic sunroof and the next-gen front seats, which didn’t quite meet my expectations.

One of the standout features of my Tesla has been the Autopilot system. While my car is equipped with the older AP1 system, I found it to be reliable and accurate on highways, making long drives more enjoyable. In comparison, I had a harrowing experience with a newer FSD beta system in a Model Y, highlighting the trade-offs between advanced features and dependability in Tesla‘s autopilot technology.

In terms of repairs, I faced a few challenges with component failures, including the low voltage battery, washer pump, and main high voltage battery pack. While the replacements were mostly covered under warranty, the sudden failure of the main battery raised concerns about the reliability of EVs in the long run. The lack of communication from Tesla regarding the issue added to the frustration, highlighting the need for better customer support in the EV industry.

Despite the challenges, I still enjoy driving my Tesla and appreciate the convenience of home charging and the overall performance of the car. However, I acknowledge that EVs may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who rely on affordable transportation options. The rising prices of electric cars and concerns about battery reliability raise questions about the future of EV adoption, particularly in lower-income communities.

In conclusion, owning a Tesla has been a mix of highs and lows, but ultimately, it has been a learning experience. While EVs offer many benefits, they also come with their own set of challenges that may not be suitable for everyone. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how electric cars shape the future of transportation.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I look forward to sharing more insights and experiences with you in the future. Remember to like, subscribe, and stay tuned for more updates on my Tesla adventures. See you in the next one!
