Hey guys, Sean here from Tesla Family. Just a couple of days ago, my Model 3 was rear-ended at an intersection near my house. Let’s take a closer look at what happened and how the repair process went.
I was stopped at a red light with three lanes of traffic when the light turned green. The car in front of me stopped, but the GMC Terrain behind me kept rolling and ended up hitting my rear bumper. Thankfully, no one was injured in the accident, but there was some damage to my Model 3.
The damage was confined to the rear bumper, with scuffs, gouges, and even a hole in the plastic. I contacted Tesla to get the damage repaired, and they determined that the bumper would need to be replaced.
This wasn’t my first accident with my Model 3. I had another incident earlier in 2021 on the passenger side. So, this was my second time needing repairs on my car.
I took my Model 3 to the Tesla body shop for repairs, and they provided me with an estimate for the cost of the repairs. The insurance company also sent me their estimate, but there was a significant difference in the cost.
After some back and forth between Tesla and the insurance company, they finally reached an agreement on the final cost of the repairs. It took about a month for the repairs to be completed, with some delays due to parts availability.
During the repair process, I was provided with a Tesla Model Y as a rental vehicle. While it was a bit pricey, it was great to drive a Tesla while my Model 3 was being repaired.
After almost a month, I finally got my Model 3 back from the body shop. The repairs were done well, and the car looked as good as new. The fit and finish were excellent, and I was happy to have my car back in my garage.
Overall, the repair process was a bit of a hassle with delays and communication issues, but in the end, I was satisfied with the outcome. The insurance company covered the cost of the repairs, and I was back on the road in my fully repaired Model 3.
