Today, we’re going to be fixing a cracked bumper cover. It’s a common issue that many car owners face, but with the right tools and techniques, it can be easily repaired.
First, we need to clean up the edge of the crack. Using a rotary tool with a grinding bit, we increase the surface area by grinding a v-groove into the crack so that the epoxy holds. Next, we rough up the area around the crack with 40 grit sandpaper and clean the crack with acetone or alcohol.
To seal the crack, we hold it closed until it’s flush and use locking pliers to clamp it at the top. Then, we use tape to secure it in place. After filling in the crack with JB Weld plastic Bonder and reinforcing it with drywall tape, we let it dry overnight.
The next day, we remove the clamps and masking tape to reveal a smooth and almost flush crack. We sand off the edges around the crack to help the body filler hold better. After cleaning the area and applying body filler, we sand it down and prime the damaged areas on the bumper.
After wet sanding and applying paint, the bumper looks clean and almost as good as new. Finally, we install the bumper back onto the vehicle and admire our handiwork.

With a little patience and the right materials, you can save yourself time and money by repairing it yourself. Plus, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment knowing you fixed it on your own.
