Repairing Collisions on a Tesla Model 3

Tesla Model 3 Collision Repair Process: Restoring Beauty and Functionality

In this week’s video, we delve into the intricate process of repairing a Tesla Model 3 with front-end damage. The vehicle is in need of a new hood, left fender, two headlights, and a new front bumper cover. Additionally, there will be a repair completed on the right fender to ensure the vehicle is restored to its former glory.

As the video begins, we see the front compartment of the Tesla Model 3 being expertly removed to access the damaged parts. The removal process involves taking out the six upper bumper bolts, four lower bumper bolts, and all side fasteners on both sides. The two bumper wiring harness plugs are also disconnected to facilitate the repair process.

With the front cover removed, the disassembly of all components attaching to the left fender commences. This includes the fender liner, headlight, two bumper retainers, and the repeater lamp. The meticulous disassembly ensures that each part is carefully removed to avoid any damage.

The left fender is then taken off the vehicle, followed by the removal of the hood. The hood struts and four bolts attaching the hood to the hinges are removed to allow for the hood to be taken off the vehicle. The components attaching to the right fender are also disassembled, including the headlight, fender liner, and repeater lamp.

Next, the new parts are tested, starting with the right headlight, hood, and left fender. The bump stops and striker are attached to the new hood, ensuring proper alignment and functionality. Minor adjustments are made to confirm correct hood gaps before moving on to the left headlight and bumper retainers installation.

The new front bumper cover is test-fitted on the vehicle after all components are installed. Once the test fitting is complete, the new parts are disassembled to prepare for the painting process. The repair area on the right fender is sanded and shaped, followed by the application of body filler to ensure a smooth surface.

After the vehicle is painted, the assembly process begins, starting with the installation of the right fender repeater lamp, fender liner, and headlight. 3M cavity wax is sprayed on the backside of the repair area before installing the remaining components. The vehicle is meticulously assembled, with attention to detail in every step.

The final touches are made, including adjusting the window and ensuring perfect gaps between the body panels. The vehicle is now complete and ready for the detail department. The skilled technicians have successfully restored the Tesla Model 3 to its original beauty and functionality, showcasing the precision and expertise required in collision repair.
