In this week’s episode of our Tesla Model 3 restoration series, we are diving deep into the repairs needed for the front right corner of the vehicle. As we mentioned in a previous video, this Tesla Model 3 has sustained damage to the front right corner, including multiple bender support brackets that need to be replaced, along with the fender and hood. Additionally, the left fender will also be repaired to ensure the vehicle is back to its original state.
To start the repair process, we begin by removing the right front wiring harness so we can bolt on the new fender support and rail extension. This step is crucial in ensuring that the new parts fit seamlessly onto the vehicle. Before bolting on the new fender support, we perform metal work on the upper apron to ensure a perfect fit.
Next, the new fender bracket and rad support are installed, as these parts are needed for when we test fit the new hood and fender. The damaged hood is then removed to give us access to start repairing the left fender. All necessary steps are taken to ensure that the repairs are done meticulously and with precision.
Paper is installed on all of the roof glass before grinding off the damaged fender brackets. Both brackets are then clamped on for the test fitting of the new fender. The front right door is also overhauled for paint to ensure that the entire front right corner of the vehicle looks seamless and brand new.
With all the new parts fitting perfectly, it’s time to take apart the vehicle so we can rivet, weld, and repair all of the remaining parts. The front left door is also overhauled for paint, and the left fender is removed to complete the repair process. The right fender and rod support are also removed so the apron repair can be completed.
The rivet holes are drilled in the side fender support, and the parts are marked where both mating fenders meet so the panels can be prepped for applying the glue. The parts are then riveted together to ensure a strong and durable repair. The left fender repair is also completed, and sky code is applied to the panel to show any imperfections when sanding.
The right front door is removed so the upper a-pillar bracket can be repaired, and resistance spot welding is performed to ensure a secure fit. Finally, the vehicle is now ready for the paint shop, where it will receive a fresh coat of paint to bring it back to its original glory.
