Replacement of the front roof glass on a Tesla Model S

In my four and a bit years of owning this car, I have been fortunate enough to not have to do much in terms of repairs or maintenance. However, a recent rock chip and crack on my sunroof glass has forced me to take action. Luckily, I was able to obtain a replacement glass from the original seller of the car and decided to try my hand at replacing it myself.

As I began the process, I quickly realized that it might not be as difficult as I initially thought. Opening the sunroof slightly allowed me to access the Torx bolts on the inside, making it easier to remove the old glass. The Fasteners were actually on the outside, making the removal process relatively simple. With the right tools and a bit of elbow grease, I was able to remove the old glass without much trouble.

After obtaining the replacement glass, I was relieved to see that it looked identical to the original. However, my relief was short-lived when I discovered that it was actually the wrong part. Despite this setback, I was able to confirm that the glass was compatible with my car and proceeded to install it with a bit of thread lock to secure it in place.

Once the new glass was installed, I tested the sunroof to ensure that it functioned properly. To my delight, it cycled smoothly without any issues. I also took the time to inspect the exterior of the car to make sure that the new glass looked good from the outside. Despite a slight discrepancy in the alignment, the seal was secure, and I deemed the repair a success.

As I admired my handiwork, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Not only had I successfully replaced the sunroof glass on my own, but I had also saved myself the time and money of taking it to a professional. This experience taught me that with a little patience and determination, I am capable of tackling car repairs that I never thought possible.

In the end, I learned that sometimes taking matters into your own hands can lead to unexpected success. While I may not have been an expert mechanic, I proved to myself that I have the skills and resourcefulness to handle unexpected challenges when they arise. And who knows, maybe next time I’ll tackle an even bigger repair with the same confidence and determination.
