Hey guys, Shawn here from Tesla Family. I’ve had my Model 3 for almost two years now, with 24,000 miles on it, and it’s time for its two-year service. While Model 3 usually only needs to be serviced on an as-needed basis, Tesla recommends a few maintenance items and intervals to maintain the reliability and efficiency of the vehicle.
According to the owner’s manual, Tesla recommends a brake fluid health check every two years, replacing the cabin air filters every two years, cleaning and lubricating the brake calipers annually, and rotating the tires every 6,250 miles. These recommendations are based on normal driving behaviors and scenarios.
When I booked my appointment for the two-year service, the earliest availability was about 15 days later. The service included checking the brake fluid, replacing the cabin air filters, performing an alignment, and rotating the tires. Additionally, I requested Tesla to address a musty smell coming from the air conditioning vents, a common issue with Model 3s.
The resolution for the musty smell involves changing the air filter, cleaning the evaporator, and a software update to improve the air conditioning system. While I could have done this myself, I decided to let Tesla take care of it during the service.
The service center provided a touchless drop-off and pick-up process, with face masks required due to COVID-19. Tesla also offered me three days of Uber credits to use while my car was being serviced.
After about two and a half days without my car, I received a notification that my Model 3 was ready for pick-up. The service invoice showed that Tesla performed a tire rotation, alignment, cabin filter replacement, and brake fluid flush as part of the complimentary two-year service. The total cost for these services would have been $445 if not for the complimentary service.
I also paid for an evaporator clean, wiper replacement, and received a slight discount on labor. The total cost for these additional services was $138, compared to $583 without the complimentary service.
Overall, the service experience was smooth, and I was satisfied with the work done on my Model 3. If you’re considering getting your Model 3 serviced, this breakdown of costs and services should give you a good idea of what to expect.
