The Correct Way to Charge Your Tesla | Don’t Make This Mistake!

Maintaining the battery health of your Tesla is crucial for ensuring the longevity and performance of your Electric Vehicle. The battery is not only the most important part of your Tesla but also the most expensive to replace. In a recent video, I conducted a battery degradation test on my almost 2-year-old Model 3 and discovered that all the little things I had been doing to maintain battery health had paid off.

One of the key tips for maintaining good long-term battery health is to always keep your Tesla plugged in when not in use. Tesla recommends leaving your vehicle plugged in as it helps preserve the high voltage battery. There is no advantage to waiting until the battery level is low before charging, and the battery performs best when charged regularly.

Optimizing your state of charge is also important for battery health. Finding your optimal state of charge involves setting your daily limit to 80% and adjusting it based on your average end-of-day state of charge. Keeping your car around the 50% mark as much as possible is ideal for battery health.

Choosing the right home charger is essential for maintaining good battery health. While a slower charger is technically better for battery degradation, there are trade-offs to consider. Level 2 charging, such as a NEMA 1450 outlet, provides faster charging speeds and better efficiency compared to Level 1 charging.

Avoiding DC fast charging as your primary form of charging is recommended for long-term owners looking to preserve battery health. While DC fast charging is convenient, it can lead to increased battery degradation over time. Using the in-car systems and scheduled charging options can make it easier to charge your Tesla while optimizing battery health.

Overall, taking care of your Tesla‘s battery is essential for maximizing its lifespan and maintaining its resale value. By following these tips and incorporating good charging habits, you can ensure that your Tesla‘s battery remains healthy for years to come. Remember, a well-maintained battery is key to enjoying all the benefits of owning an Electric Vehicle.
