The Tesla Model Y came out nearly a year and a half ago, and I was lucky enough to take early delivery. However, with that came some quirks and build quality issues that I’ve had to deal with since I got the car so early on. Despite these challenges, there were some advantages to having the car early, one of which was the opportunity to put the car on Turo.
Turo is essentially the Airbnb of cars, where you can rent out your car and make some additional income from it. Many people were excited to check out the Model Y when it was first released, so I decided to give it a try. Initially, I was able to cover my payments entirely with Turo rentals, which was a great way to offset the cost of owning the car.
However, as with any rental service, there is always some risk involved. Unfortunately, that risk became a reality when my car was rear-ended by a renter. Dealing with the aftermath of the accident, including getting the car repaired, working with Turo insurance, and communicating with the renter, was a challenging experience.
Despite the setback, I was able to navigate the process and get my Model Y repaired at a Tesla-certified body shop. The repairs were costly, but thankfully, the insurance covered the full cost. I also had to deal with issues like diminished value, loss of income, and rental car expenses, all of which added to the complexity of the situation.
In the end, I learned valuable lessons about renting out my car on Turo and the importance of having the right insurance coverage. While the experience was challenging, I am grateful to have my Model Y back in good condition. Moving forward, I plan to be more cautious and considerate when renting out my car in the future.
Overall, my experience with Turo and getting my car repaired after an accident was a learning experience. It highlighted the risks and rewards of renting out your car and the importance of being prepared for unexpected situations. Despite the challenges, I am grateful for the opportunity to share my Model Y with others and make some extra income along the way.
