As a Tesla YouTuber, I try to cover all the bases when it comes to accessories and features so that my viewers don’t have to. However, even I couldn’t avoid a recent accident that left me with a hefty repair bill. In this blog post, I’ll share the details of my fender bender, the costs involved, and what you should do if you find yourself in a similar situation.
It all started when I was exiting a tunnel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and ran into traffic that had backed up due to another accident. Despite slamming on my brakes, I ended up rear-ending another vehicle at around 20 miles per hour. Thankfully, both parties walked away unharmed, but the damage to my Tesla Model 3 was significant.
After filing a claim with my insurance company, I received an estimate of around $6,000 for the repairs. This included replacing the front bumper, headlights, hood, and fender. While State Farm covered most of the costs, I still had to pay a $500 deductible.
One of the most surprising things I learned during this process was that Tesla requires you to take your vehicle to a qualified auto body shop for repairs. This was a bit nerve-wracking, given the advanced technology in a Tesla, but ultimately, it was the best option for ensuring proper repairs.
The total repair estimate came to $6,394, with State Farm covering $5,807 of that amount. The most expensive parts to replace were the bumper, headlights, hood, and fender. I was also informed that I would be without my Tesla for a few weeks while the repairs were completed.
In addition to sharing the costs involved, I also wanted to highlight some important settings in a Tesla that could help prevent accidents in the future. For example, adjusting the sensitivity of the Collision sensors and ensuring that automatic emergency braking is enabled can make a big difference in avoiding collisions.
Overall, this accident was a learning experience for me, and I hope that sharing my story will help others who may find themselves in a similar situation. Remember to drive safely and always be prepared for the unexpected, even in a Tesla.
