Welcome back to another episode of Paint Society! In this episode, we are going to tackle a common issue that many car owners face – chipped paint. Chipped paint on your vehicle can be unsightly and frustrating, but fear not, we have a solution for you.
In this episode, we are going to focus on repairing and improving the look of the chips on a 2005 Honda Accord. The front end of the car is covered in chips, but one in particular really bothers us. We are going to show you step-by-step how to make it look better, going from a rough chip to a smooth finish.
The first step in this process is to use a degreaser to clean the panel thoroughly. This ensures that the surface is clean and ready for sanding. We then use sandpaper to smooth out the edges of each chip, creating adhesion and a smooth transition between the chip and the rest of the surface.
Next, we use UV putty to fill in the chips and create a seamless transition. We cure the UV putty with a UV light, ensuring that it is fully set before moving on to the next step. We then sand the area to further smooth it out and prepare it for painting.
For the paint, you have two options – touch-up paint or spray paint. We opt for spray paint as it provides a smoother finish. After applying the paint, we let it dry before applying a high-quality spray can clear coat. This clear coat is 2K, meaning it contains a catalyst that mixes with the clear coat for a durable finish.
After letting the clear coat dry, we sand the area with 2000 grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections. We then move on to 3000 grit sandpaper for a finer finish before polishing the area with a rotary buffer and a swirl remover.
The final result is a significantly improved appearance, with the chip repair blending seamlessly with the rest of the hood. While this repair is not permanent and may require touch-ups in the future, it is a great way to improve the look of an older vehicle.
It is important to note that this repair technique is best suited for older vehicles with imperfections that you want to improve. For newer cars or cars with good paint, it is recommended to use touch-up paint for small areas.
In conclusion, tackling chipped paint on your vehicle is a manageable task that can greatly improve the overall appearance of your car. With the right tools and techniques, you can achieve professional-looking results at home. Remember, it’s just paint – don’t overthink it!
