Total Tire Expenses for a 2016 Tesla Model X with 135K Miles over 7 Years

Tires, tires, tires – the never-ending saga of Tesla ownership. If you’re a Tesla owner, you know that tires are a hot topic of discussion. From the cost to the brand to the maintenance, tires are a crucial part of owning a Tesla. In this blog, we’re going to dive deep into the tire history of Lucky the Tesla Model X after 7 years of ownership and 135,000 miles on the road.

Lucky, a 2016 P90D Model X, has been through quite a journey when it comes to tires. From the original set to replacements due to wear and tear, Lucky has seen it all. The first tire replacement came at 22,500 miles, costing $1,343.56 for all four tires. The previous owner had also replaced two back tires at 19,997 miles due to punctures, costing $1,000.

As the miles racked up, more tire replacements followed. In June 2021, the back tires were replaced at 41,841 miles for $695. Then, in May 2022, the front tires were replaced at 67,692 miles for $1,034.75. Just a month later, a flat tire incident led to the replacement of both back tires with Sumi tires for $593.88.

But the tire journey didn’t stop there. In October 2022, all four tires were replaced with Continental tires for $1,791.99. This proactive replacement was done to have spares of both front and back tires for road trips. The total cost of tire replacements for Lucky came to $4,689.15 over 7 years and 135,000 miles.

Interestingly, the tire costs exceeded the maintenance costs for Lucky, showcasing the importance of regular tire maintenance and replacements. As a conservative driver who utilizes Autopilot frequently, the tire lifespan was extended to over 40,000 miles per set.

In conclusion, owning a Tesla comes with its own set of challenges, and tires are a significant part of that journey. From brand preferences to cost considerations, Tesla owners must stay vigilant about their tire health to ensure a safe and smooth driving experience. So, next time you hit the road in your Tesla, remember to keep an eye on those tires – it’ll make your dad proud.
