Understanding Tesla’s Maintenance Costs in the First Year

Hey there Tesla fans, Aaron Rath here! It’s hard to believe, but we are almost at one year with Slowpoke as part of our driving family. In this next series of videos, I want to talk about things that new Tesla owners should understand and know as they pick up their Tesla and what to expect in that first year.

Today, I want to talk about maintenance costs, or lack thereof, when it comes to owning a Tesla. In the 11 months that I’ve owned my Tesla, I have had absolutely zero maintenance costs. This may sound surprising, but let me explain why.

First off, I want to thank our sponsor for today’s video, Drive Eyewear. They offer Tesla-inspired sunglasses in four different styles – Giga, Tara, Lith, and May. These sunglasses are top-notch and comfortable, perfect for driving. You can check them out at driveiware.com and use the discount code “RatsTesla” for 10% off your purchase.

In terms of maintenance costs, I have invested in some preventative measures for my Tesla. Living in Northern Colorado, I knew I needed all-season tires for the winter, so I purchased a set of 20-inch wheels and tires from Tire Rack for $2,800. This included TPMS sensors for easy swapping between wheels.

I also opted for paint protection film (PPF) on the front half of my car and ceramic coating for added protection. The PPF cost me $1,200 and the ceramic coating was a DIY project that cost me around $500. Additionally, I tinted my windows for $1,100 to keep the cabin cool in the summer.

While these preventative measures added up to around $5,000, my actual maintenance costs have remained at zero. It’s important to note that these expenses are optional and can be avoided if desired. Overall, owning a Tesla has been a cost-effective and enjoyable experience.

As we approach the one-year mark with Slowpoke, I want to thank all of you for your support and viewership.
