What is the Range of a Tesla Model X After 7 Years?

Today, I want to share with you the story of our 2017 Tesla Model X and the range test we recently conducted. After seven years of ownership and over 100,000 miles on the odometer, we decided it was time to figure out just how much range we had left in our trusty Electric Vehicle.

When we first purchased the car, it had a maximum range of 295 miles. Over the years, we had noticed a gradual decrease in the actual range we were able to achieve on a single charge. This led us to wonder just how much range we had lost over time due to normal wear and tear on the battery.

So, armed with a full charge of 240 miles, we set off on a road trip towards Las Vegas. We made sure to stick to a steady 70 mph on the highway, despite the temptation to go faster. As we drove, we kept a close eye on the range indicator, noting how many miles we were able to cover before needing to recharge.

As we approached Las Vegas, our range had dwindled down to just 1 mile. We decided to push the limits and continue driving until we hit zero miles of range. It was a nerve-wracking experience, especially as we navigated through traffic and made our way towards the nearest charging station.

In the end, we were able to achieve a total of 200 miles of usable range on a single charge, despite the car being seven years old and having over 100,000 miles on the clock. While we had lost approximately 32% of the original range, we were still impressed by the car’s performance and efficiency.

As we plugged in to recharge, we reflected on our journey with the Tesla Model X. Despite its age and limitations, we had grown fond of the car and its quirks. While we entertained the idea of upgrading to a newer model, my wife was content with keeping the car for the foreseeable future.

In conclusion, our range test was an eye-opening experience that shed light on the realities of owning an Electric Vehicle long-term. While we may have lost some range over the years, we were still impressed by the car’s performance and reliability. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll embark on another range test to see how far our trusty Tesla can take us.
