Living with BMW’s Luxury Electric SUV: My Experience Driving 17,000 Miles in the BMW iX

The BMW iX: A Boringly Reliable Electric SUV

When it comes to electric vehicles, the BMW iX may not be the most eye-catching option on the market. In fact, some may even call it ugly. But despite its unconventional looks, the iX has proven to be a reliable and comfortable choice for many drivers.

In a recent blog post, Edmunds’ own Brian Wong shared his experiences with the long-term 2022 BMW iX. With over 12,000 miles on the odometer, the iX has been a standout in the fleet for its reliability and ease of use. While other electric vehicles in the lineup have faced their fair share of issues, the iX has remained a solid performer.

One of the key highlights of the iX is its interior, which offers a luxurious and spacious cabin with comfortable seating and high-quality materials. The dashboard layout is sleek and modern, with easy access to the infotainment system and smartphone integration. The optional air suspension adds to the overall comfort of the driving experience, making long trips a breeze.

Despite its unconventional exterior design, the iX delivers on performance with 516 horsepower and all-wheel drive. The dual-motor setup provides plenty of power for quick acceleration, while the regenerative braking and throttle mapping are well-calibrated for a smooth driving experience. The iX also boasts impressive range, with one test vehicle covering 377 miles on a single charge, surpassing its EPA rating of 315 miles.

While the iX may not be the most exciting electric SUV on the market, its reliability and comfort make it a solid choice for drivers looking for a practical and dependable option. As the iX prepares to leave the fleet, it leaves behind a legacy of boringly reliable performance that will be missed by many.
